Vranić visited Health Center, General Hospital and KCUS: Satisfied with conditions and services provided

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - As announced earlier, the Minister of Health of KS, Prof. Dr. Haris Vranić visited public health institutions in the Sarajevo Canton in the past few days.

The first institutions included in the visit were the Public Institution Health Center of Sarajevo Canton, the Public Institution General Hospital “Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš”, and the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo. The delegation of the Ministry of Health of KS, led by Minister Vranić, was warmly welcomed by the management of all three institutions.

During the visit to the KS Health Center, no major crowds were recorded in the organizational units of Ilidža, Novi Grad, Novo Sarajevo, and Centar. There were no complaints from patients regarding work or organization at these locations.

After visiting these units, a meeting was held with the general director, doc.dr. Abel Baltić, in the institution's administration. The director confirmed what was observed in the field, stating that, fortunately, the influx of patients to Covid clinics has currently decreased.

During the meeting, priorities and the dynamics of hiring the missing staff in this institution were agreed upon, especially for recognized personnel for whom funds from the KS Health Insurance Fund are secured. A new reorganization of certain clinics within the Health Center was also discussed, in order to relieve some of them and bring others closer to patients.

The minister expressed gratitude for the excellent management of vaccination, which was primarily carried out by this institution, and which will continue with the vaccination process in the Sarajevo Canton in the coming period.

During the visit to the General Hospital (OB), Minister Vranić visited the outpatient-polyclinic part of the hospital, where he noted the presence of a larger number of patients and that the capacities of that department require expansion. Together with the director, prof.dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, the minister also visited the infectious Covid ward and the intensive care unit of that department. On this occasion, it was emphasized that all patients on oxygen support or with severe clinical conditions in this ward are unvaccinated. It was established that all patients admitted to the Covid ward receive all necessary care, and the dedication of the healthcare workers of this institution is at the highest level. In further discussions with the director, it was emphasized that the General Hospital remains a priority for the Ministry of Health and the KS Government regarding its transformation into a cantonal hospital.

Furthermore, Minister Vranić drew the attention of director Gavrankapetanović to commence the renovation of the ground floor of the outpatient-polyclinic department as soon as possible, as well as the procurement of necessary equipment to improve the work of the radiology department, for which the Ministry of Health of KS has allocated 620,000 KM.

The minister understood the seriousness of the shortage of non-medical staff and expressed readiness to try to resolve this issue in the coming period, together with the Government and the KS Health Insurance Fund. He also expressed satisfaction with the significant improvement in the provision of all health services within the scope of the General Hospital's work, which has greatly contributed to raising the quality of healthcare services in the Sarajevo Canton overall.

The visit to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, as our largest and most significant healthcare institution providing tertiary healthcare, began with a tour of the DIP building and the central laboratory. These laboratories are operating at full capacity, and from conversations with patients, we received information that all laboratory results are ready by ten in the morning, which is a significant step forward to the satisfaction of patients.

It was also noted that all specialist-consultative outpatient clinics are open, and patients are regularly admitted for these examinations. Upon learning that Minister Vranić had arrived at the Clinical Center, the general director, prof.dr. Sebija Izetbegović, joined the visit.

The minister and director visited the Day Oncology Hospital, located in the former offices of the general directors, and it was noted with satisfaction that the conditions for treating oncology patients are top-notch.

The visit continued with a tour of the radiology clinic, where all radiological equipment is functional, and significant progress has been made in shortening the time to receive final results, which previously took at least seven days.

After that, the minister and director Izetbegović visited the renovated intensive care unit for coronary patients, which is fully equipped with equipment and staff for treating this type of patient.

Continuing this visit, Minister Vranić also toured the infectious diseases clinic and its intensive care unit, where Covid patients are housed at the Clinical Center. In a conversation with the head of this clinic, it was announced that 84% of patients on oxygen support are unvaccinated.

During the conversation with General Director Izetbegović, a common conclusion was reached that the patient comes first, that there are no disagreements between the healthcare institutions in the Sarajevo Canton, and that an agreement was reached that the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Clinical Center, will find possibilities for the necessary assistance to this Center in the coming period.

Minister Vranić expressed satisfaction with the director's presented plans for further development and introduction of new treatment procedures for patients, and he was particularly pleased with the fact that the transplantation program at KCUS has been expanded from kidney transplantation to corneal transplantation.

The Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton will provide full support for the further development of new procedures, which were communicated during the conversation with director Izetbegović.

Minister Vranić expressed gratitude to the directors of the visited institutions for their exceptionally brave and quality fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, considering that these three institutions bore the brunt of that fight.
