Ambulance driver: I don't know who called, I arrived at the accident scene in Rogoj within minutes

Four people were injured on Sunday evening in a serious traffic accident in the place of Rogoj on the main road Sarajevo - Foča. The young man driving the Golf 5 lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a truck coming from the opposite direction, Patria reports.

However, witnesses of the accident claim that the real drama followed only after the horrific crash. The injured people waited for more than an hour and a half for the ambulance from Trnovo, which is about ten kilometers away. When the ambulance team finally arrived, there was no doctor, only a nurse and a driver. Additionally, they did not have adequate medical equipment.

Ambulance driver Aleksandar Bjelica told the Patria news agency that he does not know when the accident happened, but says he arrived in Rogoj just a few minutes after being notified of the crash. He was told about the accident by his friend. The fact that there was no doctor with him, only a nurse, he says, is not the fault of his team, but of the Republika Srpska Health Insurance Fund. At the Trnovo Health Center, a doctor works only on weekdays, and until 3 PM.

- The people who called the ambulance from the accident site probably got the ambulance in Foča. I don't know what happened between the accident site and Foča, and how long it took them to coordinate, but from the moment my friend called me on the phone and informed me about the accident, until the moment I was in Rogoj, only a few minutes passed - says Bjelica.

Spokesperson for the East Sarajevo Public Security Center, Danka Tešić, told reporters that the injured persons are out of life-threatening danger. However, already a day after the accident, it turned out that the truth was different. The Golf driver broke several vertebrae, and his sister has brain swelling. She is in life-threatening condition. Both were urgently transferred from Foča to Sarajevo, to the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo.

It remains unclear why the call from Foča to the ambulance in Trnovo was delayed. It is also unclear who gave spokesperson Tešić the information that the injured were out of life-threatening danger, Patria reports.
