(Patria) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has postponed the presentation of the new college of 26 commissioners to September 17, Politico reports.
Von der Leyen was supposed to present her team today to various political factions in the European Parliament and then publicly announce the composition of the new EU government.
However, that event has been postponed, so the meeting of the European Commission President with political groups in the parliament will be held on September 17.
On Monday, Slovenia nominated former ambassador Marta Kos as European Commissioner, thus helping Von der Leyen achieve a balanced composition of the Commission. However, the Slovenian parliament still needs to approve this appointment.
The Slovenian parliament will decide on this on Friday, after which the nomination of candidates should be completed and final, according to a joint statement from the press service of the European Parliament and the chief spokesperson of the European Commission, Eric Mamer.
A European Parliament official, insisting on anonymity, told Politico that the Commission used this formality with Slovenia to gain another week for "fine-tuning" the allocation of portfolios.
