(Patria) - The European Union will find ways to disburse the promised ninety billion euros in credit to Ukraine despite Hungary's continued resistance, stated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Friday, Reuters reported.
"We will fulfill the promise one way or another," Von der Leyen told reporters after a summit in Brussels, where European Union leaders failed to persuade Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to lift the blockade of the vital European Union credit for Ukraine.
European Union leaders condemned Hungary's "unacceptable" resistance during their meeting, said EU Council President Antonio Costa.
"An agreement is an agreement, we must keep our word. And no one can blackmail the European Council," Costa said.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that leaders asked the European Commission to find ways to disburse the credit and called Orban's veto an unprecedented "act of serious disloyalty".
"This will leave a mark," Merz said.
"This is a serious violation of the principle of loyalty of member states to each other and damages the reputation of the European Union."
