The Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has ordered the revocation of the decision to temporarily release Vojislav Šešelj and that he must return to the Tribunal's detention unit.
After that, Serbia and the Netherlands will again declare themselves on his release, and the Trial Chamber will then re-evaluate the possibility of the leader of the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) being allowed temporary release.
The Trial Chamber approved Šešelj's release from the Hague Tribunal on November 6, 2014, due to the need to enable adequate treatment for liver cancer metastasis.
Šešelj was released with guarantees from the Government of Serbia, although he "refused" them.
Šešelj also commented, stating that he would not return to detention.
- Let's see how Aleksandar Vučić and Tomislav Nikolić will arrest me now - Šešelj told Novosti, adding that he is at the radicals' headquarters and is conducting party business.
He announced that in the afternoon he would be in Bor, where, as he said, he would speak at an SRS rally.
Otherwise, at the request of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and the Association of Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa, which explained the reasons and provocations by Šešelj towards the victims and informed the Court and the Prosecution orally and in writing, the Appeals Chamber made this decision.
