Vogel: Why is there no reaction from BiH to the DGAP roundtable and the invitation to Željana Zovko

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - German Christian Schmidt is completely unqualified for the job of High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that only proves it, said Tobi Vogel, an analyst at the Policy for Democracy Council. 

Vogel's reaction followed the announcement of a roundtable discussion organized by the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and youth organizations titled "BiH: Prospects after the elections".

As Patria reported yesterday, Marie-Janine Čalić, a professor of East and Southeast European History at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, will also participate in the discussion besides Schmidt.

In September 2021, Čalić also spoke about Srebrenica at a gathering in Germany.

"Nationalistically oriented Bosniaks have made Srebrenica an 'elected trauma'. For such people, Srebrenica serves to this day as an argument to 'categorically exclude power-sharing and reconciliation with Serbs'. 

She also spoke about the imposed amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH, which punish and prohibit the denial of genocide, and questioned how Schmidt would implement that law.

High Representative Schmidt also participated in the same gathering, and a video of his address was deleted. 

In addition to Čalić, one of the loudest proponents of ethnic division of BiH through the adoption of a segregating Election Law, Croatian MEP of BiH origin Željana Zovko, has also been invited to the roundtable.

Regarding the event where Schmidt will be with those who relativize genocide and want the division of BiH, Vogel wrote: "German Christian Schmidt is completely unqualified for the job of High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that only proves it. I don't expect better from him. But it is irresponsible that there is no reaction to DGAP's invitation to Željana Zovko," Vogel stated.
