Council of Ministers of BiH on admission of cadets to police agencies, admission of 150 people to Border Police of BiH never completed

(Patria) - Today's session of the Council of Ministers of BiH will also include a Proposal for a Decision on establishing the Plan for the admission of cadets to police agencies at the level of institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2022, proposed by the Ministry of Security of BiH.

However, it should be recalled that the admission of 150 cadets to the Border Police of BiH has been on hold for a year now, as the force faces a shortage of personnel due to departures from the Border Police of BiH and retirements.

When the list of 150 cadets was published in September 2021, within just four days, Rejhan Raković, the chairman of the Commission for the Admission of Cadets, was arrested. A list and a larger amount of money were found on him, suspected to originate from corrupt criminal acts and that certain candidates had paid money for admission.

A full year was not enough for the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to conclude the investigation into this case, which they classified as high-level corruption.

The cadets who were not admitted filed complaints, but for months there was no one to review them because the Police Officers' Appeals Board did not exist. Even when the Board finally began its work, it did not have access to the data because all documentation was with the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

In the meantime, Raković and another police officer were dismissed from the Border Police of BiH.

In the past year, neither the head of the Border Police of BiH, Zoran Galić, nor the Minister of Security, Selmo Cikotić, have contacted the Prosecutor's Office of BiH to bring this case to a final conclusion.

Without a decision from the Board, Galić did not want to annul the competition, but no one knows anymore what the fate of the 150 cadets will be.

According to information from Patria, most of these candidates have found other jobs, and some have left BiH.

Also, at today's session, there is no appointment of heads of police agencies, even though the competition has been completed and the ranking list of candidates has been submitted.
