Government caused financial crisis: Was the Brčko District budget deliberately plundered

 

The government of Brčko District has led this community into a serious financial crisis. More and more residents of Brčko are publicly stating on social networks that they are being led by an incompetent and unqualified government in the District. This is evident from constant financial failures, writes the Patria news agency.

First of all, this was shown by the failure to collect excise revenues, which cost the District around 30 million marks. The bankruptcy of Bobar Bank cost Brčko 22 million marks. An additional cost for the water factory amounted to 2.4 million marks, and new penalties for not drawing loans for the construction of the city bypass amount to around 1.3 million marks. That amount of penalties for, practically one municipality, is almost identical to that for the entire Federation due to not drawing all loans in the past year.
 

The first hearing was also held in which the Brčko District is suing Bobar Bank and seeking the return of 22 million KM that remained trapped in this bank after the bankruptcy. The Health Insurance Fund was completely drained of 7.4 million KM, and additionally around 1.5 million KM from the Employment Bureau, which were the most tragic consequences.

In Brčko, more and more people suspect that their city was deliberately plundered. Namely, there was enough information and time to withdraw funds from Bobar Bank. More precisely, a year before the announcement of Bobar Bank's bankruptcy, there was talk about its dubious business practices. HDZ Mayor Ante Domić regularly defends himself, claiming that the government did not know about the poor condition of Bobar Bank.  

But, despite all the suspicions that were even discussed among citizens, the District's money continued to be deposited into the Brčko branch of Bobar Bank. Brčko District even placed its budget funds on a term deposit in this bank in January 2016.

Then, all suspicious actions were covered up by the audit report, which determined that the financial situation was in order. No one has yet sought accountability for this series of official frauds. Everything seems as if someone deliberately embezzled the District's funds to cover terrible debts, in which politics at the entity level directly had a hand.
