KS Government asks FBiH Government to reconsider decision on electricity price increase for businesses

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton, at its last extraordinary session, accepted the Initiative of the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton on withdrawing the decision on increasing the price of electricity for businesses in the Sarajevo Canton area.

It tasked the Ministry of Economy to submit the Initiative and the related Conclusion of the KS Government to the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and JP Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine.

The Ministry of Economy of KS was approached by the Association of Employers of Sarajevo Canton with information stating that JP Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine has sent offers to companies, members of this association, for the conclusion of new electricity supply contracts, with an enormous price increase compared to the price that was valid in the previous annual contract of these companies with the aforementioned enterprise.

Considering the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the general business conditions, the new, enormous increase in electricity prices would further endanger the operations of a large number of business entities, and thus their liquidity, and lead to the loss of a large number of jobs, as well as a decrease in market competitiveness, given that this price increase automatically entails an increase in the prices of finished products for end consumers.

Due to all of the above, the Government of Sarajevo Canton, with this initiative, asks the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and JP Elektroprivreda BiH to reconsider the decision on increasing electricity prices, and accordingly, to return electricity prices to the framework of prices from the previous contractual period.
