Canton Sarajevo Government Helps Betting Shops, But Not Artisans!

(Patria) - SDP BiH Stari Grad Sarajevo most strongly condemns the policy of the Canton Sarajevo Government, which plans to subsidize salaries for betting shops but not for artisans.

Artisans are not prohibited from working "de jure", but "de facto" they are, which is why we believe the KS Government should change the criteria and method of salary subsidization, with a special emphasis on small businesses and tradesmen in general, and artisans in particular.

SDP Stari Grad will always stand with artisans, as they are the guardians of our tradition and one of the key pillars of our tourist offer. Thousands of jobs in tourism rely on their skilled hands.
The attitude of the FBiH Government and the Canton Sarajevo Government towards artisans, the largest number of whom are in the Old Town Municipality of Sarajevo, is shameful. Ask yourselves what Baščaršija will look like if all artisan shops close, how many tourists will come to Sarajevo to see Chinese and Turkish products and souvenirs?

The Old Town Municipality has introduced certain measures to help artisans who are in municipal business premises, but this is not enough; help from the Canton and FBiH is needed. The state must not stand idly by while old and traditional crafts disappear in our city and country! We will soon present our program #20za2020 for the upcoming local elections, an important part of which will be projects for artisans.
