SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Helicopters of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina were idle all day due to strong winds and were unable to be engaged in extinguishing fires in the Neum hinterland.
N1 reporter reports that weather conditions are somewhat better at this moment and that the helicopters are ready to operate over the fire sites.
According to information from the Neum Operational Center, the situation at the fire sites is better, with the wider area of Mount Žaba and low vegetation and grass near the village of Zelenikovac burning, while the population and buildings are not threatened.
All available personnel and equipment are on the ground, and local volunteers and two helicopters of the Armed Forces of BiH are participating in firefighting, according to the Federal Administration of Civil Protection.
Additionally, a need for engaging Canadair aircraft has been expressed.
The situation is worsened by wind and inaccessible terrain, while traffic has not been suspended for now.
In the Konjic area, fires are still active in the Borci area and at the Biskup site, where a pine forest is burning.
At these locations, the terrain is mined and inaccessible.
The Mostar city firefighting unit had an intervention extinguishing a fire from 1:15 PM in the town of Blagaj, where grass and low vegetation were burning.
