(Patria) - More than half of American Democrats, according to a new poll released yesterday, believe that current US President Joe Biden should withdraw from the race for the White House after a very poor debate with Republican Donald Trump.
However, according to this Ipsos survey, published by the Washington Post and ABC, Biden and Trump are tied at the national level, each with 46 percent of respondents intending to vote for them in the November elections.
A majority of Democrats, 56 percent, and 67 percent of respondents believe that the current president (81) should withdraw his candidacy.
Half of those surveyed believe that Donald Trump should also step down. But when it comes to Republicans asked about Trump withdrawing from the race, the figure drops to 11 percent.
If Vice President Kamala Harris replaces Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate, according to this poll, she would achieve a better result than her opponent, with 49 percent to 47 percent for Trump.
Biden continues to resist withdrawal, which is being urged by members of his party, as well as celebrities and wealthy figures from the entertainment world.
Questions about his mental sharpness have been a current topic for months, but his performance in the debate with Donald Trump on June 27 was shocking, many assess.
During this televised clash, he often struggled with expression and gave the impression of a person visibly showing the burden of age.
Of all respondents, 85 percent believe that President Biden is too old for a second term, compared to 60 percent who think the same about his opponent Trump.
