Over a million Ukrainians without electricity after Russian attacks

(Patria) - More than a million households across Ukraine have been left without electricity after a new wave of Russian night attacks targeting energy and industrial infrastructure, Ukrainian officials announced.

The attacks hit at least five regions, injuring at least five people, while fire crews are extinguishing fires and energy experts are working to repair damage and restore supply.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia used more than 450 drones and more than 30 missiles overnight. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed that the targets of the attacks were the Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Chernihiv regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that advanced weapons were used in the attacks, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, which are difficult to intercept due to their ability to change flight paths.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, located under Russian control, temporarily lost its external power supply due to intense military activities. Although the plant is not currently generating electricity, a continuous power supply is essential for cooling the reactors.

At the same time, information is coming from Russia that two people died in the Saratov region after a drone hit a residential building, Governor Roman Busargin announced.

The attacks come amid intensified diplomatic activities aimed at ending the war. US President Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, is scheduled to travel to Berlin this weekend, where he will meet with President Zelensky and European leaders. The latest version of the proposed peace agreement is expected to be discussed, and Trump's administration wants to reach an agreement by Christmas.

According to world media, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are expected to be present in Berlin. Ukraine has already submitted a revised peace plan to the US, but the fate of the eastern territories, especially Donbas, remains the biggest obstacle. Kyiv refuses concessions, while Moscow threatens to take over the region completely if Ukrainian forces do not withdraw.

Zelensky expressed doubts about the proposal that foresees the withdrawal of the Ukrainian army and the transformation of the area into a special economic zone, warning that there are no guarantees that Russia will not continue its advance.

Meanwhile, the European Union has reached an agreement on the permanent freezing of around 210 billion euros of Russian assets, with the aim of using these funds to help Ukraine, which is facing a large financial deficit. The Kremlin sharply condemned this move, announcing legal steps.
