More than 200 farmers will spend the night at Izačić Border Crossing, one lane blocked

More than 200 farmers from Krajina are at the Izačić Border Crossing with tractors. One lane of the crossing is blocked. Farmers are demanding the resignation of the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Federal Minister of Finance, Šemsudin Dedić and Jelka Milićević. They are also demanding the payment of subsidies for 2014, 2015, and the first quarter of 2016.

NEW 10:00 PM - Farmers who arrived at Izačić Border Crossing from Cazin late in the afternoon will stay there all night. Currently, one lane at the Border Crossing is blocked. If the Federal Ministry of Agriculture does not meet the farmers' demands, they announce a blockade of the entire crossing.

NEW 4:00 PM - More than 200 farmers from Krajina headed towards the Izačić Border Crossing with tractors, where they will hold peaceful protests, NAP reports.

Farmers are demanding the resignation of the Federal Minister of Agriculture and Federal Minister of Finance, Šemsudin Dedić and Jelka Milićević. They are demanding the payment of subsidies for 2014, 2015, and the first quarter of 2016.

Dževahir Babić from the Farmers' Association "Krajina" told NAP that there will be no blockade of the border crossing if the police's treatment of the farmers is correct. Farmers will express their dissatisfaction peacefully and with dignity.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Una-Sana Canton did not approve the gathering of farmers. It was announced that farmers who protest could face fines of 3,000 to 9,000 KM.

Babić claims that the heads of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Una-Sana Canton have abused their authority. The Ministry of Internal Affairs informed the public that farmers intend to block roads and the border crossing. This is illegal.

- We did not announce the closure of the border crossing. We announced peaceful protests. It is not right for the Ministry of Internal Affairs to misinform the public - said Babić.

Farmers claim they will block the border crossing if the police fine them.

- If we pay the fines, then there is no obstacle to blocking the crossing - says Babić.

Farmers will remain at the border crossing until the subsidies are paid into their accounts. They received assurances that the payment should be made next week, but they no longer trust the authorities.

- Former minister Jerko Ivanković Lijanović destroyed agriculture in the Federation, but we do not see that the new minister, Šemsudin Dedić, is doing anything to improve the situation - warns Babić, NAP writes.
