UN Security Council to convene on Monday over US aggression against Venezuela

(Patria) - The UN Security Council will convene on Monday, January 5, over the US attack on Venezuela, RIA Novosti has learned from a source at the UN.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres assessed that the US attack on Venezuela represents a dangerous precedent and emphasized the importance of respecting international law and the UN Charter.

Guterres expressed deep concern over the dramatic escalation of the situation in Venezuela, which culminated in a US military operation and the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro, said the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric.

He stated that Guterres is concerned that the rules of international law have not been respected.

The Secretary-General called on all actors in Venezuela to engage in dialogue, with full respect for human rights and the rule of law.
