NATO-Ukraine Council to meet urgently on Wednesday over Russian hypersonic missile

(Patria) - NATO and Ukraine will discuss Russia's launch of an experimental medium-range hypersonic missile in Brussels next week, diplomats said on Friday.

The NATO-Ukraine Council meeting will be held on Tuesday at the ambassadorial level. Kyiv convened it following the strike on the city of Dnipro, officials told AFP.

The Kremlin said the attack on Ukraine using a newly developed hypersonic ballistic missile was designed to warn the West that Moscow would respond to US and UK moves to allow Kyiv to strike Russia with its missiles, The Guardian reports.

As reported by AFP, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov spoke the day after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow had launched a new missile - the Tsirkon or "Zircon" - at a Ukrainian military facility.

Peskov said Russia was not obliged to warn the US about the attack, but had nevertheless informed the US 30 minutes before the launch. Putin remained open to dialogue, Peskov said.

The Ukrainian parliament cancelled its session on Friday, lawmakers said, citing the risk of a Russian missile attack on the Kyiv district where government buildings are located.

It was announced that there are signals of an increased risk of attacks on the government quarter in the coming days.”
