Council of Ministers of BiH admits: No increase in fuel excise duties yet

The Council of Ministers of BiH reacted to information that appeared in some media, stating that the Council of Ministers of BiH will submit to the procedure at the next session of the House of Representatives of the PSBiH the Law on Amendments to the Law on Excise Duties under an urgent procedure.

- Given that information has appeared in some media that the Council of Ministers of BiH will submit to the next session of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament, scheduled for July 26, 2017, the Law on Amendments to the Law on Excise Duties under an urgent procedure, we inform the public that this information is incorrect.

We are not aware of the source of such a gross disinformation, which also included the incorrect information that the BiH Fiscal Council will discuss the Law on Excise Duties next week, as it does not have such jurisdiction.

The Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH's Management Board has the jurisdiction to propose policies and acts in the area of excise duties, and the Council of Ministers of BiH has not yet received any updated proposal for amendments to the Law on Excise Duties from it.

When the procedure for proposing the Law on Excise Duties is renewed, the public will be informed in a timely manner - stated the Council of Ministers.

This practically means that there is still no majority for this proposal, despite the demands of the IMF and international officials, as well as the fact that part of the revenue is intended for infrastructure construction. All deadlines have long been missed, so the only logical explanation for the absence of a new proposal is the fact that there is no majority in Parliament to adopt it.
