The Council of the European Union (EU) has extended the mandate of the EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Miroslav Lajčák, until January 2025.
The decision was made at a meeting of EU member state ambassadors on July 4, Radio Free Europe (RSE) reports.
The extension of Miroslav Lajčák's mandate comes at the request of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
It was previously announced that Lajčák would take over as EU Ambassador to Switzerland from September 1, immediately after his mandate as European Special Representative for the dialogue expired.
With the decision to extend the mandate, the European Union seeks to ensure that there is no vacuum in this position until Lajčák's successor is found, the Beta agency reports.
