Even if you haven't paid attention until now, in the past few days, rivers of refugees have made you hear about the Syrian crisis and the war raging there. This Middle Eastern country has been at war for several years, which has led to a large number of human casualties and mass emigration of the population, reports the Patria News Agency.
Although the refugee crisis began back in 2011 with campaigns for regime change in Libya and Syria, it wasn't until this year that it truly attracted the attention of major Western media.
Millions of Syrians had already been displaced, most remained in the country, but a significant portion (mostly opponents of the government) decided to leave their homeland. Many of them sought to reach the EU for social benefits and opportunities to earn.
The reason for the latest wave of refugees was Turkey's decision to allow Syrian refugees it had accepted to finally leave their camps and head to Europe. Given that the situation there is not at all simple and that there are not two but several warring factions, a cartoon appeared on YouTube that briefly explains what is happening there and why people are fleeing towards Europe.
