(VIDEO) US F-15 fighter jet downed in Kuwait

(Patria) - A US F-15 fighter jet crashed in Kuwait. First images from the scene are emerging.

The pilot managed to eject safely. Iran announced that its forces shot down the aircraft.



Images have spread across the internet showing the fighter jet losing control in the air after being hit near the tail section. The footage shows the F-15 spinning uncontrollably several times, after which it caught fire and crashed to the ground.

Witnesses reported a loud explosion after the crash and thick black smoke rising from the scene.



The pilot ejected from the aircraft shortly before the crash and landed safely by parachute. Footage from the scene shows him on the ground, conscious, before local residents drove him away in the back of a pickup truck. The pilot's identity has not yet been officially released.
