According to the information available so far, the driver of the van is on the run.

Local media also report that a potential hostage situation is underway in a Turkish restaurant located not far from La Rambla street, where the attack occurred. The incident happened on the famous La Rambla street, which was full of tourists at the time of the attack.

Meanwhile, the first footage from the scene of the attack has appeared on YouTube.

The police also stated that they have "activated the protocol foreseen for an attack", but cannot yet speak about motives and suspects.
