VIDEO 24 years ago, Grbavica stadium was mined and set on fire

Grbavica stadium, home of FK Željezničar, was set on fire on May 4, 1992, and at that time the settlement of the same name was the first front line, under the control of the JNA, writes the BH news agency Patria.

The west stand, transferred from the "6. April" stadium from Marijin Dvor, was set on fire, while part of the stadium was mined.

Above Dolina ćupova, as this stadium is popularly called, fire and smoke billowed. At that time, 316 trophies of the Željezničar Sports Association, which then numbered 14 clubs, were burned. What was preserved can be seen today in the showcases of the Plavi salon.

The reintegration of the Grbavica settlement took place on March 19, 1996. On the stadium, which had not yet recovered from the scars of war, the city derby between fierce rivals Željezničar and FK Sarajevo was played on May 2, 1996, with a score of 1:1.

And precisely at the time when the aggressor was destroying Grbavica, the song Grbavica was created in 1993 from pain, defiance, and spite, in the legendary performance by Mladen Vojičić Tifa. The lyrics were written by Dragan Jokić.

Today, under the management of FK Željezničar, Grbavica stadium is being modernized and is slowly meeting European standards.
