VIDEO Merkel made a Palestinian girl cry

German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with students from a school and answered their questions in front of television cameras. Among the students was a Palestinian girl who asked the German Chancellor about the stay of refugees in that country, reports the Patria News Agency.

'It is difficult to see that others can enjoy their lives, and you yourself cannot enjoy them with them,' said the Palestinian girl Reem to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, explaining that her dreams of studying in Germany would be destroyed if she had to leave the country.

For four years, she and her family have been living in Germany, where the girl has learned to speak German and English fluently, and is also learning Swedish. But her family found themselves in an unenviable situation, as her father cannot work because he has not been issued a work visa.

'I have goals like everyone else. Education is my wish and the goal I want to achieve,' Reem told the Chancellor.

'I understand that, and yet I have to... politics is sometimes difficult. You are a very nice person. You know, in Palestinian refugee camps there are thousands and thousands of refugees. If we now tell all of them that they can come and everyone in Africa that they can come, we would not be able to cope with that,' Merkel said.

Reem started crying, and Merkel approached her, stroked her hair, saying: 'You did an excellent job.'

'I think this is not about doing a good job, but about the fact that it is a very difficult situation, Madam Chancellor,' the moderator interrupted her.

'I know it's a difficult situation. That's why I want to comfort her, because we don't want to put all of you in such situations and because it's difficult for us, because you have shown many how difficult situations can be,' Merkel told the girl.

A wave of criticism against her, prompted by this situation, was published on social networks, especially on Twitter. Her PR team tried to mitigate everything, writing that the girl cried because of the situation in her country and that everyone applauded in the end.
