Video sparks major attention: Odometer hits one million kilometers in old Mercedes driven at full throttle

(Patria) - A video posted on the Mileage Impossible channel on X has garnered significant attention.

The instrument panel of a Mercedes W124 is shown, with the odometer just crossing one million kilometers.

While such a feat is no longer a major sensation in this "indestructible" car, the way the milestone was reached has delighted users.

At the moment the odometer goes from 999,999 to 000,000 kilometers, the vehicle is speeding down the highway at full throttle, with the speedometer climbing to a maximum of 180 km/h.

The Mercedes 200D W124 was produced from 1984 to 1993. It is powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine (OM601) with 75 hp, known for its durability and simple construction.

Without a turbocharger, with a mechanical fuel pump and minimal electronics, this engine was designed to last and last.

Factory specifications indicate a top speed of around 160 km/h, meaning the car was driven at its maximum speed, and possibly even faster, when it crossed the million-kilometer mark, depending on how inaccurate the speedometer is.

This is precisely where the scene gains added weight, as the symbolic crossing of one million kilometers did not occur during a relaxed drive but at full throttle, proving that the engine is still in top form as if it had just left the factory yesterday.

The engine sound in the video shows no signs of "engine fatigue." There are no jerks, no fluctuations, just the continuous operation typical of old Mercedes diesels.

This suggests that the car has been regularly maintained throughout its life, and that a large portion of the kilometers were covered in long, steady drives under ideal conditions for this type of mechanics.

The W124 generation still enjoys a reputation today as one of the most durable cars Mercedes has ever produced.

The combination of robust construction, quality materials, and conservative engineering has resulted in a model that can easily cover hundreds of thousands of kilometers.

A million is rare, but apparently achievable.
