VIDEO Iran launched missiles towards US bases in Qatar and Iraq

(Patria) - Iran has launched six missiles towards a US base in Qatar, Iranian media report.

Iranian state media announced the launch of "Operation Basharat al-Fath" against the United States of America. Missiles were also fired towards a base in Iraq. Sirens are also heard in Bahrain.

Al-Udeid Air Base, covering 24 hectares, is located southwest of the capital, Doha, and is the headquarters of the US Central Command.

CENTCOM directs US military operations in a vast territory stretching from Egypt in the west to Kazakhstan in the east.

Established by a defense cooperation agreement in 1996, it is the largest US base in the Middle East and houses approximately 10,000 soldiers.

The US Embassy in Qatar had earlier urged its citizens to stay in their homes until further notice. Several other embassies have also issued similar warnings.

Qatar has temporarily closed its airspace today as part of measures taken amid events in the region.

The closure comes after Iran reiterated earlier threats of retaliation against the United States following attacks on its nuclear facilities.

US personnel at embassies in Qatar and Bahrain are in a "shelter-in-place" status as Iran launches missiles towards Qatar and Iraq, multiple sources familiar with the situation told CNN.

A shelter-in-place measure is taken when there is notification of imminent danger, sources said.
