VIDEO Aljaf: Besides Russia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia can also help Aleppo

Bakhtyar Aljaf, director of the Institute for Middle East and Balkan Studies Ljubljana (IFIMES) told Al Jazeera that the United Nations can hardly do anything in Syria. Russia plays the main role, writes Patria.

He believes that Turkey can also do a lot, but that Turkey has capitulated to Russian policy. The role of Saudi Arabia, which has ties with Russia due to oil, is also important.

- Everything remains with Russia. It must be very careful not to respond like the regime of Bashar Al Assad, because he will certainly be held accountable in some international court.

Aljaf expressed concern that the events in Aleppo are leading to a new Srebrenica when it comes to international observers.

- Aleppo has a symbolic role, it was declared the capital of the new Syria. When these symbols are destroyed with crimes that repeat Srebrenica, Vukovar, and Grozny, it is difficult to talk about any peace agreement. It is normal that it must come to that, but there will be no peace because new borders will be drawn. New battles will open – says Aljaf, who emphasized that at this moment the most important thing is for Russia to show its strength.
