Major fire on Hvar threatens buildings, water bombers engaged

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Around 12:45 PM, a fire broke out in a dense pine forest between the settlements of Vrbanj and Dol on Hvar.

Firefighters from DVD Jelsa, Stari Grad, and Hvar were dispatched. One person died on the island of Hvar in connection with the major fire burning between Dol and Vrbanj, reports Dalmacija danas.

At 1:40 PM, a fire also broke out near Zastražišće, and firefighters requested the assistance of three water bombers, which arrived on the scene a few moments ago and are participating in the firefighting efforts.

The Croatian Ministry of Defence announced that it had dispatched two water bombers.

"Two Canadair CL 415 aircraft from the #PPNOS #HV units have been dispatched to extinguish the fire in the Vrbanj-Dol area on the island of Hvar in the Split-Dalmatia County," they wrote on Twitter.
