'MAJOR INCIDENT' IN NOTTINGHAM Three people found dead, one man arrested

(Patria) - Three people have been found dead and one man has been arrested after police declared a "major incident" in Nottingham.

Police say they were called shortly after 4 am when two people were found dead on the street.

Officers were then called to another incident nearly two kilometers away where a van attempted to run over three people. They are currently receiving hospital treatment, reports Jutarnji list.

A third man was also found dead nearby.

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he is in custody.

Police have closed the center of British Nottingham and suspended tram traffic due to what they called a serious incident.

Six roads in the city and suburbs are closed, trams are not running, and police officers with bulletproof vests and helmets are on the scene, as well as national inter-agency liaison officers (NILO) - part of the elite forces established after the Manchester Arena bombing.

Police have announced that the roads will remain closed 'for some time' while the incident is investigated and have promised to release more information when they can.

Armed police were seen in the Old Market Square, but 'there were no obvious signs of alarm,' a witness told Sky News.

- Police are on the scene on multiple closed roads due to an ongoing incident. Please avoid these areas as they are expected to remain closed for some time - said Chief Inspector Neil Humphries.

All trams have been suspended due to what has been described as a 'major police incident', and tram tickets are being accepted on buses.

Maples Street in Hyson Green is also closed, while the A609 Ilkeston Road is also closed in both directions, with traffic slowing due to a police incident from Faraday Road to Bright Street. Magdala Road near Mapperley Park is also closed.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service has asked citizens to avoid the area:

"We are currently attending an incident in the city center and assisting the police. Follow their social media for any updates throughout the day. Please people avoid the area."
