(Patria) - At least 19 people were injured yesterday in the Polish city of Szczecin after a car hit a group of pedestrians, and then other vehicles, authorities announced, ruling out "an act of terrorism".
- Six children are among the injured. Two of the injured are in critical condition - said the regional governor Adam Rudawski, adding that the driver was arrested after attempting to flee.
Szczecin police spokesperson Pawel Pankau claims it was not an act of terrorism.
- This is a 33-year-old Polish citizen, a resident of Szczecin - said Pankau.
According to him, the man in a Ford Focus hit a group of people waiting for a tram at a major intersection.
- Initial analyses show he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs - added the spokesperson.
Witnesses told Polish media that the driver arrived at the intersection at high speed and drove onto the sidewalk and tram stop.
After that, he tried to flee with the vehicle and a kilometer further hit three more cars, injuring their passengers.
