AHMIĆI, (Patria) – Never-before-published photographs of the crimes in Ahmići will be displayed for the first time on April 16, on the 25th anniversary of the crime, reports Patria agency.
Around 170 photographs of the crimes in Ahmići, which will be displayed at the Ahmići Elementary School, were taken in 1993 by Giles Penfound, who was then working as a photographer for the British Army.
In April 1993, Penfound came to Vitez to capture the activities of British forces as part of the then UNPROFOR with his camera. The day after his arrival, while accompanying a British forces convoy, he entered the recently destroyed Ahmići. This village in the Vitez municipality had just been attacked by HVO forces, and 116 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the ensuing massacre.
The exhibition in Ahmići is organized by the SENSE Centre for Transitional Justice. The exhibition curator is the renowned Croatian journalist Mirko Klarin. After Ahmići, the exhibition will be shown in the evening at the Historical Museum in Sarajevo, and from there, in cooperation with the Croatian non-governmental organization Documenta, it will move to Zagreb and Pula, writes Patria.
