Great Britain recorded an increase in inflation

(Patria) – Inflation in Great Britain is rising more than initially estimated, mainly due to rising prices of clothing, footwear, and food, which is a consequence of the closure of larger parts of the country due to the pandemic.

According to official data, prices rose by 0.7% on an annual basis after a 0.5% increase was recorded in September.

Unlike last year, food prices also jumped in October, leading Britons to start stocking up on potatoes and fruit.

Consumer surveys also indicate a continuation of food stockpiling, mainly due to new epidemiological restrictions introduced in October in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Let us recall, a lockdown measure has been in effect again in England since November 5.

Deputy National Statistician for Economic Statistics, Jonathan Athow, explained that the inflation rate has risen slightly due to rising clothing prices, and that after disruptions it is returning to its 'usual seasonal pattern', British media report.
