(Patria) - About a hundred flights were cancelled yesterday in the United Kingdom due to strong winds that hit the country during a very busy weekend before Christmas, announced London Heathrow Airport, and other traffic was also affected.
"Due to strong winds and airspace restrictions, a small number of flights, estimated at around a hundred, have been cancelled today," announced the London airport yesterday, the largest in Great Britain and Europe by passenger numbers.
Heathrow had already cancelled several flights on Saturday, which mainly affected British Airways passengers.
All journeys between Larne in Northern Ireland and Cairnryan in southern Scotland have also been cancelled until at least 8 PM local time, announced the British shipping company P&O Ferries.
In addition, roads had to be closed, and trains have been running at a limited speed since Saturday, leading to cancellations and significant delays during this extremely busy weekend.
