Great Britain does not support the American blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, China calls for calm

(Patria) - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that his government does not support the naval blockade of Iranian ports carried out by the American navy. Starmer told the BBC that people in the United Kingdom "have not participated in a war" and that he does not want "them to bear the consequences".

"We will not be drawn into a war. The United Kingdom will not be drawn in. It is not in our national interest because I will not act without a clear, legal basis and a clearly elaborated plan," he said.

He added that demining is key to the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

China has called for calm from all sides after being asked about Trump's threat to launch a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Maintaining this key waterway safe, stable, and unimpeded is in the common interest of the international community, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, adding that China is ready to cooperate with all parties to ensure energy security and supply.

Iranian armed forces have stated that American restrictions on ships in international waters "constitute piracy".

The spokesperson said that Iran will introduce a "permanent mechanism" for controlling the Strait of Hormuz after Donald Trump's threat to block ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.

He added that ports in the Persian Gulf must be accessible to all ships or none, and warned that no port in the Gulf or the Gulf of Oman will be safe if Iranian ports are threatened.
