Velika aleja: A Wounded Stone for Dženan Memić

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - A memorial will be erected today at 1 PM in Velika aleja on Ilidži, at the site where young Dženan Memić died under still unexplained circumstances on February 8, 2016. The carved stone, 1.80 meters high and 90 cm wide, is engraved on the left side, symbolizing Dženan's injury. The stone also bears an inscription ending with the message: "When tyranny becomes the rule, resistance becomes a duty."

The Memić family, along with their lawyer Ifet Feraget, has been trying to uncover the truth about the young man's murder for over two years. On the night of February 8, 2016, Dženan was with his girlfriend Alisa Mutap when he sustained head injuries under still unexplained circumstances, from which he died on February 15, 2016, at the KCUS.

The case was initially treated as a traffic accident, then as a murder by an unknown perpetrator, before the KS Prosecutor's Office reclassified the act as a traffic accident within a few months. Proceedings are underway against Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, who are being tried for causing a traffic accident and obstructing the course of justice, but the Memić family has considered this process a farce from the very beginning.

The father of the deceased young man, Muriz Memić, told the Patria agency that he has received all the necessary permits for the erection of the memorial, which will serve as a permanent reminder of the fight for truth and the struggle against the police and judicial system.

The Memić family has already organized six peaceful protests demanding the truth about Dženan's death and calling for the dismissal of the Chief Prosecutor of KS, Dalida Burzić, and all prosecutors who worked on this case. So far, eight of them have appeared in court. Legal experts consider this an unprecedented traffic accident case represented by such a large number of prosecutors.

Lawyer Ifet Feraget has also written to the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, demanding a final reaction in this case of "unprecedented corruption in the judicial system."

The family invites all those who can and support their struggle to attend the erection of the memorial, which will serve as a reminder of the tragic death of the 22-year-old young man.
