Nine New Municipal Mayors Already Known

Polling stations in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the 2020 Local Elections have closed. Nine candidates for mayor already know their victory is guaranteed. Namely, in nine municipalities, only one person was nominated for the position of mayor, meaning they have no opponents.

Thus, the SDA, SNSD, and HDZ parties have retained their positions in nine BiH municipalities, and these are mostly long-serving mayors in the municipalities of Teočak, Domaljevac-Šamac, Orašje, Mrkonjić Grad, Jezero, Olovo, Grude, Ravno, and Usora.

Tajib Muminović is the sole candidate for the mayor of Teočak municipality. He is the SDA candidate who has governed this municipality for 26 years. He will receive a mandate for another four years as he has no opponents.

His party colleague will also receive a new four-year mandate at the head of Olovo. This is Đemal Memagić, who is also considered the wealthiest mayor in BiH. He has been at the head of Olovo since 2012.

SNSD also has two sure victories, in the municipalities of Jezero and Mrkonjić Grad.

Snežana Ružičić, who is one of the seven women heading BiH municipalities, is also a sure winner in one of the smallest municipalities in BiH - Jezero. This will be her second term in this position.

Dragan Vođević is the winner in Mrkonjić Grad. SNSD decided to nominate him in this BiH municipality. Divna Aničić, the current mayor, will be the leader of the SNSD list in this electoral unit.

In the remaining five municipalities where there was no uncertainty about the top position, HDZ can mark them as 'already won battles'.

Stjepan Piljić currently holds the position of acting mayor of Domaljevac-Šamac municipality, and in the 2020 local elections, he will receive a full mandate. According to data available on the domaljevac.ba website, he has been at the head of the municipality since 2018.

Marijan Oršolić - Bano is a sure winner of the elections in Orašje, provided he circles his name on the ballot.

Ljubo Grizelj, also an HDZ cadre, is the winner in Grude. He received his first mandate in 2012, and as the head of the municipality, he will serve another four years.

Andrija Šimunović in Ravno municipality will also receive a new mandate, and Zvonimir Anđelić has also secured an HDZ list of winners for the position of municipal mayor. He will head Usora.
