Thousands of people had to leave their homes due to a large fire that broke out at an illegal landfill near the city of Valparaiso in Chile. The fire, carried by strong winds, spread to an area of 300 hectares, a large part of which is covered by forest.
Around 4,500 people have been evacuated so far, and about 10,000 more people are expected to be evacuated, BBC reports, Patria conveys.
Firefighters defended the residential areas of Valparaiso from the approaching flames all night. So far, three firefighters have been injured, and a 67-year-old woman has died.
