Extraordinary session of the KS Government: Increased police surveillance, higher fines, and reduced speed limits in Sarajevo announced

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton (KS) held an extraordinary session today following a serious traffic accident in which a young doctor, Azra Spahić (25), died in the center of Sarajevo, while her two friends sustained serious bodily injuries.

Deputy Prime Minister of KS Emir Dedović addressed the media and, on behalf of the KS Government, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased young woman, as well as words of support to the injured and their families, wishing them a speedy recovery from the situation they found themselves in.

Dedović explained that the KS Government today adopted a conclusion to increase police surveillance from 7 PM to 7 AM, writes Faktor.ba. He announced increased control and support in the form of mobile cameras and interceptors that will be used to register speed limit violators.

He believes this will help until the city is covered with a sufficient number of stationary radars and cameras. Dedović also stated that they will work to remove obstacles that are currently present in permanently confiscating vehicles from traffic violators.

He emphasizes that they have identified obstacles in the system and will set short deadlines for resolving them as soon as possible. He adds that fines for traffic violations will be increased, "in the necessary procedure, in the shortest possible time.".

- Also, following the legal procedure, the speed limit in the populated areas of Sarajevo will be reduced from 40 to 30, and from 60 to 50 - said Dedović.

He also points out that "they as a Government have supported what is called 'Sarajevo under video surveillance' and will do everything possible to make it happen as soon as possible.".

He added that a serious campaign will be launched to try to prevent violence in traffic.
