Bosnia and Herzegovina imports eight times more water than it exports

BiH, with 9,461 cubic meters of drinking water per capita, according to the World Bank's research on renewable drinking water sources, ranks first in the region and seventh in Europe, but imports eight times more water than it exports, reports the Patria News Agency.

BiH has seven times more renewable drinking water sources than Germany. A similar situation exists with grains, as BiH has 250,000 hectares of uncultivated land and annually imports 150,000 tons of corn, worth 58 million KM, and 140,000 tons of wheat, worth 53 million KM.

BiH's trade deficit last year amounted to 7.51 billion KM, of which 2.1 billion is attributed to agricultural and food industry products.

In the exchange of mineral products, mainly oil and petroleum derivatives, the trade deficit is 1.18 billion KM.

The deficit in trade of machinery, appliances, and mechanical devices amounts to 1.4 billion KM, while the deficit in the trade of means of transport, mainly personal car imports, is 738 million KM.

A significant deficit is also recorded in the trade of chemical industry products, amounting to 961 million KM. BiH also imports large quantities of wood, stone, fruits, vegetables, and other products, despite having them available domestically.
