Drug imports five times greater than total turnover of domestic producers in BiH

Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina has published a report on the turnover of drugs during 2013 in BiH, which is based on data on realized imports of drugs from foreign manufacturers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the turnover of drugs from domestic manufacturers. The ratio of domestic and foreign drug manufacturers in the total turnover of drugs that have marketing authorization in 2013 in Bosnia and Herzegovina is incomparable, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The turnover of domestic manufacturers is 88,216,244.88 BAM, while the realized import of drugs from foreign manufacturers is 438,557,453.47 BAM. Total for 2013, this amounts to a turnover of 526,773,698.35 BAM.

On the other hand, out of a total of 59 registered wholesale distributors of drugs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 39 submitted data on realized imports of drugs that have marketing authorization in 2013, while 20 wholesale distributors did not import drugs. Among them, the largest financial share in total drug imports was held by Phoenix Pharma from Bijeljina with 73,258,365.73 BAM, writes Patria.

Data on drugs produced in Bosnia and Herzegovina and placed on the market in 2013 were submitted by 6 drug manufacturers. The largest turnover among domestic drug manufacturers was achieved by Bosnalijek Sarajevo in the amount of 36,425,716 BAM.

Interestingly, the largest realized import of drugs from foreign manufacturers with marketing authorization in BiH last year was by Slovenian KRKA, in the amount of 44,722,820 BAM.

The total number of approved drugs in Bosnia and Herzegovina is 4,499 as of December 31, 2013.
