Curfew imposed in downtown Los Angeles due to riots, Trump calls protesters 'animals'

(Patria) - Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has imposed a curfew for the downtown area, effective from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday local time. She stated that she is introducing this measure to stop those who, as she said, are "exploiting the president's chaotic escalation" by deploying National Guard members and Marines.

- I have declared a local state of emergency and imposed a curfew for downtown Los Angeles to prevent vandalism and looting - Bass said at an evening press conference, speaking about the serious damage inflicted on businesses and property.

- Police will arrest those who violate the curfew – and you will be criminally prosecuted - she added.

Shortly after, Bass also posted on platform X, where she confirmed the imposition of the curfew and reiterated that she is introducing it to "stop malicious actors who are exploiting the president's chaotic escalation."

- If you do not live or work in downtown Los Angeles, avoid the area - she urged.

We remind you that protests against immigration raids and deportations of migrants have been ongoing since Friday, and U.S. President Donald Trump decided to respond by deploying 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines, despite opposition from California authorities.

In his sharp speech, delivered at one of the largest U.S. military bases, the American president called the protesters "animals."

"What you see in California is a widespread attack on peace, public order, and national sovereignty, led by rioters under foreign flags with the aim of inciting a foreign invasion of our country," Trump stated before several thousand soldiers and civilians.
