Tax Evasion: Miroslav Mišković Sentenced to Five Years in Prison and a Fine

Delta Holding owner Miroslav Mišković has been sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of eight million dinars for aiding in tax evasion, reports B92, as carried by the Patria news agency.

By the same decision, Mišković was acquitted of charges that he had harmed road construction companies, i.e., that he had extracted money from them through financial operations.

He was found guilty of aiding his son Marko in evading withholding tax of approximately 320.3 million dinars, or about three million euros.

Both Mišković and the Organized Crime Prosecutor's Office have the right to appeal this verdict to the Belgrade Court of Appeal, which is expected.

Judge Maja Ilić stated that the Judicial Panel made the decision unanimously. The owner of Delta did not attend the sentencing, which he was not required to do.

Marko Mišković was sentenced on February 25 to three and a half years in prison and a fine of eight million dinars for tax evasion, with the obligation that his company "Merainvest" pay taxes of about 320.3 million dinars, but like his father, he was acquitted of charges of extracting money from road construction companies.

Miroslav Mišković's trial was separated from the proceedings against his son and other defendants in December 2015 due to health issues. The Miškovićs were arrested in December 2012.

After several months in detention, they were released to defend themselves from freedom, with bail of several million euros, and their passports remain in court custody, and they cannot leave their place of residence without court approval.
