The Constitutional Court has overturned court verdicts in the Hypo and INA-MOL cases against Ivo Sanader. The court stated that this decision does not examine whether the former Croatian prime minister is guilty of war profiteering and accepting bribes for which he was finally convicted, as the Constitutional Court is not competent for that, Croatian media report, as carried by the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The verdicts were overturned because Sanader was not provided with all guarantees of a fair trial and all legal protection mechanisms provided by law.
The case is being returned for retrial to the County Court in Zagreb.
Sanader was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison.
