(Patria) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen addressed the media after the summit of European Union (EU) leaders with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
She said that the leaders had a good and honest discussion, talking about what is needed to put Ukraine in a stronger position.
She says that Ukraine needs "comprehensive security guarantees", supporting its economic and military positions.
"We must rearm Europe urgently, and the Commission will propose a plan on this at the European Council on March 6th," she said, the Guardian reports.
She emphasized that it is now of utmost importance to increase defense investments for a longer period.
"This is for the security of the European Union, and in the geostrategic environment in which we live, we must prepare for the worst, and thus strengthen our defense," she says.
Asked about her message to the US, she said that the EU is ready to defend democracy and the principle of the rule of law.
"You cannot invade and bully your neighbor, nor can you change borders by force," she stated.
