SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina has sent an official request for international assistance to the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism, through the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) in order to combat the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-2019).
The request has also been sent to the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NATO), the BiH Ministry of Security announced.
The request was sent following yesterday's decision by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina to seek international assistance in the field of protection and rescue.
In this letter, the BiH Minister of Security, Fahrudin Radončić, informed the European Commission and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NATO) about the measures taken in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He stated that all available resources have been engaged and extraordinary efforts are being undertaken to stop the spread of the coronavirus, but that the healthcare system and other relevant sectors in Bosnia and Herzegovina do not have the capacity to meet all the needs arising from COVID-19.
Therefore, he emphasized that assistance and support from the EU and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre would be highly appreciated during this difficult time, so that BiH can cope with the new coronavirus pandemic.
