The first day of the two-day summit of European Union leaders, which discusses, among other things, the Western Balkans, ended with a message from the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, reports N1, according to Patria.
He said that tensions and divisions in the Western Balkans have gotten out of control, but also that this region is of vital importance to Europe. Otherwise, the draft joint statement of the leaders also emphasizes that they will promise clear support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
"The Western Balkans is a region vital to Europe. Tensions have gotten out of control, partly due to unhealthy external influences that have been destabilizing several countries for a long time. I will propose to the leaders that we take measures, including our communication on the strategy. To the countries of the region, our message will be clear: the European Union remains faithful to its promise and committed to the stability and prosperity of the region. I want the leaders to confirm the European perspective for the Western Balkans," Tusk stated.
