French police used tear gas and water cannons on Saturday to disperse about 200 migrants and activists who tried to hold a banned protest near the refugee camp in Calais, the so-called Jungle, regional authorities reported, according to the Patria news agency.
Three police officers were slightly injured after migrants attacked them with stones. A photographer from the France Presse agency was also slightly injured.
Police dispersed the demonstrators with tear gas and water cannons and brought the situation under control within 20 minutes, said Etienne Desplanques, an official from the Pas-de-Calais region.
Between 7,000 and 10,000 migrants currently live in the camp, most of whom want to go to Great Britain.
French President Francois Hollande said on Monday that the camp should be demolished by the end of the year, with migrants distributed to reception centers across the country, Index reports.
