(Patria) - US President Donald Trump announced that he had a "good and very productive phone call" with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This announcement comes ahead of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which is scheduled to take place later today at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Trump had previously announced that he congratulated the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia on achieving a ceasefire, after the two countries agreed on Saturday to suspend several days of border conflicts.

In his statement, Trump sharply criticized the United Nations, stating that the organization has "done very little to help" resolve global conflicts, specifically highlighting the "disaster that is currently happening between Russia and Ukraine."

"The United Nations must start becoming active and involved in WORLD PEACE!", Trump stated.

Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump will meet today in Miami, and during their talks, they plan to speak by phone with European leaders, confirmed the spokesperson for the Ukrainian president.

Ahead of the crucial meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, Republican Congressman Mike Turner expressed optimism, stating that Trump is "on the side of peace." Turner, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, believes that the plan Zelensky is bringing can lead to a resolution of the conflict.

Appearing on ABC's "This Week," Turner elaborated on Trump's position and the complexity of the situation. "He is trying to balance these two forces, which is very, very difficult, to bring these two sides together. But in that balancing act, we must understand that Russia's goal is to take something from someone else – something that is theirs – and Ukraine must have a sense of security guarantees," Turner stated.

He emphasized that he believes the Ukrainian president is coming to the meeting with a concrete and achievable proposal. "I think Zelensky is coming with a plan that is feasible and that could lead us to the goal," he concluded.
