Lucrative business: "Gold diggers" and the men who love them

That „gold digging“ is not just a local phenomenon is proven by the British documentary „Proud Gold Diggers“ airing on British Channel 5, which follows women who conquer wealthy men to get their hands on money, jewelry and expensive gifts. Before discarding them in favor of someone richer.

The Channel 5 documentary follows 31-year-old mother of two Laura Boylan, who sees nothing wrong with investing in her appearance to win over a rich man, the British Mirror reported.

Laura revealed that she spends on average around 700 KM on a single clothing item to look attractive enough for a potential „investor“.

- If I invest in myself, then they will invest in me. If I spend 700 KM on preparations, that can result in a gift like a watch worth 20,000 KM, Laura explains the tactic.

- When you add 2 and 2, it really is about an investment. If you make an effort to look like a million dollars for them, they will want to spend a million dollars on you, Laura advises.

For Laura, the key is investment. During the show, she recalled how she was promised a ring worth 80,000 KM, but decided to break up with that man because things went too far. However, she kept the ring. Disappointment followed when the ring was appraised and found to be worth only 10,000 KM.

Laura explained the rules of this type of romance to the show's hosts:

- I act like a businesswoman. We will go to dinner, on vacation and the like.

When asked by the host about the physical side of the relationship, this mother of two categorically answers with „No, never“.

She also explained the type of game:

- The more they think they will have you, the more they will spend. They give you gifts as long as they think they will have you. Then at a certain point I just block them, and I leave.

She shared with viewers that her children, aged 11 and 13, do not know about her lifestyle, but also that she does not care what they would think of her.

When asked what she thinks about the „gold digger“ label, Laura skillfully responds:

- I am a diamond digger, I am not cheap enough to be a gold digger.
