(Patria) - The situation in Lebanon is reaching a critical point as conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah intensify. According to the latest data released by UNICEF, the humanitarian cost of this conflict is hitting the youngest and most vulnerable members of society the hardest.
Since March 2, when there was a significant escalation of hostilities, at least 83 children have been killed in Lebanon, and 254 have been injured. These figures paint a terrifying reality on the ground:
UNICEF warns that schools and civilian areas are becoming sites of suffering, which constitutes a direct violation of international humanitarian law. In addition to direct casualties, thousands of children are forced to leave their homes, facing shortages of food, clean water, and medical assistance.
"Children in Lebanon are paying the highest price for a conflict they did not participate in. Every life lost leaves an indelible mark on the future of the entire region," the statement reads.
The escalation of the conflict threatens to completely collapse the country's already fragile health system, while humanitarian organizations are making superhuman efforts to deliver essential supplies to those who need them most. The world is anxiously watching the developments, as calls for an immediate ceasefire become louder, but so far without concrete results on the ground.
