(Patria) - Israeli supply cuts could leave Gaza's power plant without fuel within days and could cause a serious shortage of drinking water for 610,000 people, the United Nations humanitarian agency announced on Tuesday.
- Israeli authorities have stopped supplying electricity to the Gaza Strip, reducing electricity hours to three to four hours a day. The power plant in Gaza is currently the only source of energy and could run out of fuel within days," said Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at a UN press conference in Geneva.
Regarding the water supply cut, Laerke said that this decision affects more than 610,000 people in Gaza and will result in a serious shortage of drinking water.
James Elder, spokesperson for UNICEF, also expressed concern about the supply cut decision made by Israel.
- UNICEF is alarmed by the suspension of water and food supplies to Gaza - said Elder, reminding the parties of their obligations under international law.
